FOUR PEARLS OF BECKSTRAND CANCER FOUNDATION SPONSORS “CELEBRATE LIFE WITH HOPE EVENT,” BENEFITS L.A.-AREA PEDIATRIC CANCER PATIENTS
Star Studded Event Emphasized Survivorship and Life-Long Wellness
Los Angeles, Calif. (June 15, 2008) – The Four Pearls of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation, which aims to improve and enhance the quality of life of children, teens and families struggling with cancer, recently served as the premier sponsor for the 2008 HOPE Health & Awareness Fair. The event, held June 1 at Paramount Studios, attracted 2,500 cancer patients and their families, in addition to many silver screen celebrities and musicians. As the largest annual event of its type in the United States, Celebrate Life with HOPE emphasizes health promotion and wellness in an enjoyable setting punctuated by food and fun.
“We are very proud to play a presenting role in this year’s Celebrate Life with HOPE Event, an experience that draws us closer to pediatric cancer patients and their families, and represents the myriad opportunities we all have to reach out and provide help for children with cancer,” said Lil Spitzer, Executive Director of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. “Our participation in the HOPE event underscores our ongoing commitment to supporting Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, and to offering hope through Beckstrand Cancer Foundation’s newly launched Artshop for cancer patients.”
Four Pearls of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation hosted a coloring activity booth inspired by illustrations from the soon-to-be released children’s book, “Why Me?” written by Cindy Wester. The book details a child’s triumphant journey through cancer diagnosis and treatment, with a special afterword about Beckstrand Cancer Foundation’s resources. The Foundation’s booth also featured an art therapy activity, inspired by its new art therapy program designed to teach kids and teens with cancer how to better cope with their diagnosis and prognosis, and aid in their recovery. The Beckstrand Artshop will be open to patients with any type of cancer and will use art and psychoanalysis as tools for learning coping skills.
Musician Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds performed at the event, while attendees mingled with Jesse Metcalfe from “Desperate Housewives” and Tommy Lasorda of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball fame.
