CANCER SURVIVOR AND FORMER NFL LINEBACKER RICH SAUL NAMED HONOREE FOR BECKSTRAND’S 2010 DIAMOND & PEARL BALL
Corona Del Mar Community Philanthropist Renetta Caya to Serve as Gala Chair

NEWPORT BEACH, California (March 22, 2010) – Beckstrand Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving and enhancing quality of life for cancer patients and their families, today announced that its honoree for The Diamond & Pearl Ball 2010 will be Rich Saul, a three-time cancer survivor and former NFL linebacker who played 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.

"The Diamond & Pearl Ball is a way for the community to come together to fight for a cause that affects more than 1 million people each year,” shared Lil Spitzer, Executive Director of Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. “We’re so proud to honor Rich Saul, a man who has faced colon cancer, lymphoma and leukemia head on and emerged a survivor. He has an inspiring story to tell our guests and strength to give those who are currently undergoing cancer treatment. We’re excited to share that with them.

Each year, The Diamond & Pearl Ball represents a celebration of cancer survivorship and acts as a reminder for its attendees how much the local cancer community needs their help. Proceeds from the event are used by Beckstrand Cancer Foundation to provide cancer patients with advocacy and direct financial assistance with critical survival needs, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, food, transportation, medical insurance, copayments and prescriptions. Since 1974, the Foundation has been providing patients with support that enables them to remain focused on treatment and recovery. The theme for this year’s gala is "An Evening in Havana." The event will be chaired by Corona Del Mar resident and community philanthropist, Renetta Caya.
